I’ve always been drawn to the "Sunshine" style mirrors you see in luxury home catalogues, but I’m definitely not a fan of those boutique price tags! Today, I’m going to show you how to engineer your own radiant showpiece using basic materials from the Dollar Tree. By layering the "arms" of silver plastic spoons over a metallic wreath form, we can create an architectural piece that catches the light beautifully and adds instant glamour to any wall in your home.

💡 Sandy’s Crafting Tips & Hacks
The Patience Hack: When you’re painting a dark or black frame silver, it’s tempting to glob the paint on. Trust me—applying several thin coats and waiting 30 minutes between each one is the secret to a professional, streak-free finish that looks like real metal.
The Adhesive Duo: For wall-mounted decor, always use my signature “adhesive duo.” Use Fix-All or E6000 for that permanent, structural bond, but add a tiny bit of hot glue for an instant hold so you don’t have to wait hours for the permanent glue to set before moving to the next step.
Zero-Waste Crafting: In this project, we only need the arms of the spoons. Make sure you save those round spoon heads in a bin! They are perfect for my “petal” style mirrors or as textures for custom vases, so nothing goes in the trash.
Instructions
Prepare the Mirror Frame: I start by removing the mirror from its round frame so I can paint the frame with my silver metallic acrylic. I found that I needed several coats to completely hide the original black plastic. I always make sure to let it dry for about a half-hour between coats for a clean look.
Add the Designer Shimmer: While the frame is drying, I like to create a custom glitter glaze. Mix some silver glitter sprinkles directly into your Mod Podge and apply it over the silver-painted frame. This adds a beautiful, multidimensional sparkle that really elevates the piece.
Construct the Sunburst Base: Next, we’ll build our foundation. I bonded the silver wreath form to the back of the charger plate. For this step, I definitely recommend using a permanent adhesive like Fix-All or E6000 to ensure it’s sturdy enough to hang on the wall. Let this cure for an hour or two so it doesn’t shift.
Mount the Centerpiece: Once your glittered frame is dry, reinsert the mirror. I then applied a generous amount of my “adhesive duo” to the back of the frame and centered the entire mirror unit onto the front of the charger plate. Press firmly to ensure a solid bond.
Bling the Radiant Rays: For the final “Sunshine” effect, I snapped the arms off my silver plastic spoons and adhered them in a radiant pattern around the mirror. I finished the look by framing the inner edge of the mirror with a string of silver beads and a thin chain of crystal gems to hide all my glue seams and add that final boutique shine!
