💡Sandy’s Crafting Tips & Hacks
The Glue String Removal Hack: If you’re like me and hate those messy hot glue "spiderwebs," here is my favorite trick: once the glue has cooled, take a dry paintbrush and simply twirl them away. It keeps your reflective mirror surface sparkling like it came straight from a designer boutique shelf!
The Permanent Bonding Hack: For the legs and the frame, use a combination of Fix-All or E6000 for a long-term bond and hot glue for an immediate hold while you work.
The Camouflage Hack: Use a silver beaded necklace to create the grid lines; it hides the glue seams and perfectly complements the mirror’s reflective finish .
Custom Height Alternatives: If you don’t have plastic lids, you can upscale the piece using silver napkin rings or crystal doorknobs from Amazon to give the board elegant height.
The “X’s and O’s” Modification: aspire to be zero-waste in my crafting! When you're snapping the heads off your spoons, save the handles for your "X" pieces and use the round heads for the "O" pieces. It ensures nothing goes in the trash and gives the game set a cohesive, high-end look.
Instructions
To get started, we’re going to embellish our foundation. We’ll begin by applying three rows of black and silver crystal diamond wrap to each side of our mirror frame. I recommend taking your time to ensure the rows are perfectly straight—it's that attention to detail that gives the set a flawless boutique store finish.
Now for the fun part: creating our custom game pieces. We’re going to take nine silver plastic spoons and snap the round heads off the handles. For our "O" shapes, we'll use five of those round heads, and for our "X" shapes, we'll cross four handle segments. I like to finish each piece by adding a shimmering gem to the center to really catch the light.
Next, we’re going to give our board some elegant height. We'll build our pedestal legs by measuring and wrapping four plastic bottle lids in silver diamond wrap. Once they're ready, we'll bond them firmly to each of the four back corners of the mirror using a bit of hot glue—it turns everyday lids into beautiful raised supports.
It’s time to map out our game board. We’ll use a string of silver beaded necklace to create our grid lines. Carefully measure and cut your strands to create nine equal boxes on the mirror’s surface—this hides any messy seams and ties the whole reflective look together.
The last thing to do is give our board a professional polish. Before we start playing, give the mirror a good wipe with glass cleaner to remove any fingerprints. Then, use my signature trick: take a dry paintbrush and simply twirl away those final pesky glue "spiderwebs" for a flawless boutique shine.
