I found a 3D wreath form and realized its spherical shape was the perfect skeleton for a high-end orb lantern that would usually cost a fortune in a lighting boutique. It is amazing how you can take basic hardware and kitchen staples—like metal clip cups and plastic spoons—and turn them into something spectacular for your home decor. Today, I’m showing you how I upscaled these Dollar Tree finds into a beautiful, portable table lantern that features a unique homemade lightbulb and a shimmering, crystal-encrusted finish.

The Power Access Strategy: When assembling your homemade lightbulb, ensure you leave about 6 inches of fairy light wiring hanging out of the base. This allows the on/off switch to terminate outside the lantern for easy access without having to disassemble your decor.
The Spoon Handle “Amp”: To instantly “amp up” the bling factor of a basic wire frame, snap the heads off silver plastic spoons and use the handles as decorative cylinders. It creates a custom, high-gloss architectural look for pennies.
The Frictionless Assembly: 3D wreath forms can be tricky to assemble without instructions. Spread the eight cylinders evenly around the center until you form a sphere, then use the provided spoke piece to anchor everything from the top and bottom.
The Adhesive-Free Border: Use self-adhesive rhinestone ribbon for the base. It can be cut to any width or length and adheres instantly to metal surfaces, providing a brilliant shine when caught by the light without the mess of liquid glue.
Instructions
Assemble the Sphere: Spread the eight cylinders of the 3D wreath form evenly to create a spherical shape. Secure the structure by folding the spokes of the silver anchor piece over the top and bottom of the form.
Anchor the Base: Position the wreath sphere onto a small silver metal clip cup. Fish nylon cable ties through the holes in the clip cup and around the wire frame to lock the lantern body securely to the base.
Embellish the Foundation: Wrap self-adhesive rhinestone ribbon around the clip cup to hide the metal. For extra detail, apply small dots of hot glue to diamond-shaped gems and insert them into the tiny holes of the cup.
Bling the Orb Cylinders: Snap the round heads off your silver spoons and discard them. Apply hot glue to the spoon handles (arms) and affix one to each cylinder of the wreath form to create a shimmering, high-end frame.
Install the Custom Lightbulb: Fill a bulb-shaped clear ornament with fairy lights, leaving the power switch hanging out for easy access. Secure the ornament into the center of the orb using hot glue and finish by applying gem stickers to the spoon handles for maximum sparkle.
