I’ve always maintained that the most striking pieces in a room are often the ones born from a bit of creativity and a very small budget. I believe that luxury is more a reflection of your imagination than the balance in your bank account, and today I’m proving it by turning a simple dollar store mirror into a gallery-worthy wall feature. By combining shimmering chrome accents with a sleek black finish, we can create a cordless lighting solution that adds an expensive, high-end glow to any hallway or living space.

The Permanent Bonding Duo: If you plan on using a taller or heavier battery-operated candle, don’t rely on hot glue alone. I always recommend using a combination of Fix-All or E6000 for a long-term, professional-grade hold and supplementing it with hot glue for an immediate “tack” while the stronger adhesive sets.
The “Flat-Fit” Ornament Hack: To ensure your decorative pole is perfectly stable, remove the hanging caps and use scissors to snip off the small plastic tips from each ornament ball. This creates a flat surface that allows the balls to be stacked in a perfectly straight, secure vertical line.
Precision Alignment: When you are ready to adhere the candle seat to the mirror, make sure the hook at the back of the mirror is lined up exactly at the top. This simple check ensures that your finished sconce hangs perfectly straight on your wall every time.
The Beaded Seam Concealer: To give your ornament pole a more intricate, custom look, glue a small ring of silver beaded necklace between each stacked ball. This hides the glue joints and adds an extra layer of shimmer to the design.
Instructions
Embellish the Mirror Frame: Disassemble the mirror so you can work on the frame individually. Use hot glue to adhere your favorite silver ribbons and a string of silver beaded necklace around the edges to add that high-end sparkle.
Prepare the Candle Seat: Paint your repurposed container cap entirely black. Once dry, apply a thin layer of gloss Mod Podge to seal the paint and give it a polished, professional finish.
Construct the Decorative Pole: Prepare your five ornament balls by snipping off the tips. Stack and glue them together from largest to smallest, ensuring they form a straight vertical line.
Assemble the Sconce: Glue the black cap to the bottom inner edge of the mirror frame. Once secured, adhere your ornament ball pole vertically to the bottom center of the cap.
Final Reveal: Re-insert the mirror and place a battery-operated candle onto the cap. The reflective surface will beautifully double the glow of your new cordless light fixture.
