I am so excited to share some of my absolute favourite glam home decor transformations that prove you don’t need a massive budget to achieve a luxury aesthetic. For this collection, I really leaned into being resourceful—like finding a 50-pack of mirrors that worked out to less than 30 cents a piece, which is actually cheaper than the dollar store!. I even pulled a picture frame from my stash that was over 25 years old and gave it a complete makeover using a silver chrome paint marker. Whether it’s turning a simple chrome napkin holder into a sophisticated wall sconce or using solar lights to make a vase double as a table lamp, these projects are all about seeing the “couture” potential in everyday items.

💡 Sandy’s Crafting Tips & Hacks
The Mod Podge Smoothing Technique: To avoid clumps when applying vase filler, squeeze the Mod Podge onto your project and use a wide soft-bristled paintbrush to smooth out the glue for a perfectly even finish.
The Zip Tie Stability Secret: When building wall sconces with wooden dowels and napkin holders, always add white zip ties to the joints. This ensures the unit remains perfectly stable once it’s mounted on your wall.
The Chrome Paint Transformation: Don’t throw away old decor! A silver chrome paint marker provides a glossy, mirror-like finish to items like 25-year-old frames or plastic animals, making them look like modern boutique finds.
The Solar Charge Placement Strategy: If you are using solar garden lights for indoor decor, hang or place the finished piece adjacent to a window. This allows the panels to charge during the day so it can glow automatically after sundown.
The Floating Mirror Shortcut: To update an old picture frame without disassembling it, simply place a smaller framed mirror directly in the centre of the existing glass to create a sophisticated, layered mirrored tray.
Instructions
Project 1: The “Crushed Crystal” Platter Vase & Lamp
Tape two large round clear plastic platters together using heavy-duty nano tape.
Adhere silver pearl beads around the border and apply Mod Podge to the centre, smoothing it with a brush.
Sprinkle clear vase filler pellets over the Mod Podge and allow to dry.
Paint two plastic horses with silver chrome markers and glue silver ornament balls to the corners of a frame to serve as a base.
Insert string lights and a solar garden light inside to transform the vase into a table lamp.
Project 2: Geometric Diamond Napkin Holder Vase
Stand a chrome napkin holder on its side and glue large diamond gems to the bottom curve to serve as stabilizing legs.
Adhere pairs of diamond gems across the entire back of the napkin holder.
Glue three silver napkin rings together and place them inside the holder to serve as a decorative insert.
Project 3: The Spoon-Detail Geometric Wall Sconce
Wrap two 12-inch wooden dowels in silver glitter paper and glue them to two chrome napkin holders to set the width.
Secure the joints with white zip ties for extra stability.
Adhere silver plastic spoon handles and diamond gems in a repeating pattern across the front of the napkin holders.
Insert a battery-operated LED string light and mount on the wall.
Project 4: Back-to-Back Hallway Sconce
Attach two napkin holders back-to-back using white zip ties on each end.
Apply Fix-All and hot glue to the top to reinforce the bond.
Glue silver plastic spoon handles embellished with gems across the opening of both napkin holders.
Mount with a single nail and secure a fairy light battery pack to the back with nano tape.
Project 5: Boutique Mirrored Solar Sconce
Glue a metal hook from a photo frame to the back of a long wood panel using Fix-All and hot glue.
Adhere four 4x4 frameless mirror tiles to the front, framing them with mini mirror tiles and square crystal gems.
Slip a chrome napkin holder over the centre of the panel and secure with industrial adhesive.
Hang crystal ornaments from the bottom with S-hooks and insert a solar garden light.
Project 6: Glitter Straw Focal Vase
Wrap straws in silver glitter contact paper and cut them to the height of a napkin holder.
Glue the straws vertically to the holder, spacing them about a centimetre apart.
Fill the gaps between the straws with clear diamond-shaped gems.
Project 7: Simple Upcycled LED Lantern
Clean an empty sauce jar and remove the lid.
Place the lid upside down on a table and rest the glass jar on top.
Insert a hanging LED lamp through the opening for an instant indoor/outdoor lantern.
Project 8: Blue Gem Snow Globe Vase
Remove the cover from a plastic snow globe and glue a silver napkin ring to the bottom.
Adhere a silver metal bangle around the top rim of the snow globe.
Place the unit on top of a square silver bowl and fill halfway with blue glass gems.
Project 9: Blinged-Out Jenga Block Tissue Box
Construct a tissue box cover and lid using wooden Jenga blocks, leaving a centre opening for tissues.
Embellish the opening with rhinestone trim and glue silver gift bag panels to the sides of the box.
Decorate the lid with glass gems and pearl beads, and add custom legs made from diamond gems.
Project 10: Heritage Frame Mirrored Tray
Paint an old 25-year-old picture frame with a silver chrome paint marker.
Place a smaller silver-painted framed mirror directly in the centre of the glass.
