💡Sandy’s Crafting Tips & Hacks
The Weighted Foundation Secret: If you prefer a sturdier piece, cut a piece of foam board to fit the bottom of the lower wastebasket and fill it with rocks or pebbles. This prevents the table from being too lightweight or tipping over easily.
The “Loose Tie” Adjustment Technique: When binding the two wastebaskets together, keep the cable ties loose initially. This allows you to shift the baskets and ensure they are perfectly aligned before you pull the ties tight for a permanent hold.
The Leveling Pro-Tip: Always use a mini level before securing your cable ties. This step ensures your table isn’t lopsided, which is critical for a piece of furniture that needs to hold lamps or decor.
The Rhythmic Strategy: Winding rope around two large baskets is a repetitive process. Set up a comfortable workspace with your favorite beverage and music to make the assembly more enjoyable.
Seamless Seam Shortcut: As you glue the rope, ensure each row is pressed firmly against the one below it. This eliminates gaps and ensures the wire frame of the basket is completely hidden for a professional finish.
Instructions
Cut a piece of foam board to fit the bottom of one wastebasket and fill the cavity with rocks if you choose to add weight for extra stability.
Invert the second wastebasket and place it on top of the first so the openings meet, then loosely bind them together with nylon cable ties.
Check that the baskets are centered and not lopsided using a mini level, then pull the cable ties as tight as possible and snip off the excess.
Hot glue the white and silver ropes around the base basket, winding them upward in a repeating pattern until both baskets are completely covered.
Secure the silver ice bucket right-side up to the top center of the roped base using a generous amount of hot glue.
Apply rhinestone ribbon and a string of silver beaded necklace around the neck of the ice bucket to hide the exposed wire and joints.
Glue the bottom of the pizza pan to the top of the 15-inch silver tray to create a reinforced, sturdy tabletop.
Adhere the silver metallic placemat to the top of the pizza pan for a seamless, mirror-like finish.
Mount the finished tabletop onto the ice bucket, securing it with hot glue to complete your high-end side table.
